We have to recognize that the power of the Aztec team had the superiority in a lot of fields when talking about good football soccer. The Mexicans are known for their control over the balloon, the speed on the field and a well documented soccer career with many triumphs; it won't be a rarity if the 2011 Gold Cup forms part of these records too.
I must say this: I've seen it coming! People not necessarily have to be blind to not seen it and know that a well prepared team has nothing to fear; even when is against the odds. I could say a lot of trash things as any disappointed soccer fan would do when his team loses; specially if it's the National team...But we must face the truth; and the truth is that Mexico has a superior team over Costa Rica and also over the other contestants.
But not only is the team, they also have a superior soccer, dominance over the ball, an aggressive offensive and strong defense that always has characterized the Aztec team. Against Costa Rica it was shown during the first moments of the game, at the minute seven came the warning and ten minutes after the first goal was scored by Rafael Márquez and just with an unnecessary light breath taking four minutes later the second was scored by Andrés Guardado. The goals party continued at the minute 26 when Guardado snipe another goal. I must say the second goal was enough to demoralize me. The last goal was made by Pablo Barrera at the 38th minute, and I just decided to watch a B-movie for the second half.
At first glance I wondered why this happened, but then I realized that Costa Rica has one of the worst features a team could have; its conformist. The victory over Cuba was overwhelming and that was enough for the team. But hey, let's wake up; Cuba is not on his best and has taken the most damage on the entire cup getting heavy hitting from the others teams too. 16 goals against just in three games say this team had a lot of problems to resolve.
Costa Rica hardly managed to draw with El Salvador and saving their position at the worst case possible, but that was enough again. Costa Rica was supposed to be the toughest opponent for the Aztec team; that was a funny joke. The green team crushed "La Sele" so easily on the first part and had mercy at the second half, Costa Rica scored just 1 goal by Marco Ureña helping to soften the shame and getting to the Quarterfinals, was this enough too?
Mexico slapped our faces, and I hope they did it good; Costa Rica must wake up if they want to progress. This defeat must give a lesson to the "Ticos" to change their conformist attitude.
