The game between the two leagues, the All-Stars of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL), will represent the 80th midseason exposition of the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game; these two constitute the Major League Baseball.
This important game will be held on July 14, 2009 at The Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri, home of the National League's St. Louis Cardinals. This game will be the first all star game played in St. Louis since 1966, and will define home field advantage in the 2009 World Series. The home field advantage will be determined for seventh consecutive time year by the all-star Game, with the American League winning all six games to date. The National League leads, 40-37-2, but has not won since 1996.
The Cardinals had hoped use the event to show off its planned Ballpark Village residential and entertainment complex to be built on the site of the former Busch Memorial Stadium across the street from the new ballpark. However the plans have not materialized and Cardinals in March said they will use the old park for a softball field and parking lot during the game.
On April 22th, 2009, All-Star balloting began on MLB.com with 8 position players (excluding pitchers and designated hitters) from each of the 30 teams being nominated for fans to vote. As with last year, only 25 email ballots can be casted and voting offically ends at 11:59 ET on July 2nd.
Also, fans can now vote for up to three players per league to participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby.
